The Pine Grosbeak is a member of the Finch family. They range from Alaska east to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, and south in the western mountains to California and Arizona. The Grosbeak prefers open coniferous forests and forest edges but can be found in shade trees in villages and in suburbs where it looks for food. It mainly eats seeds, buds, berries and insects. Winter flocks may stay near a tree with abundant fruit until all of it is consumed.
I really enjoyed this Pastel Painting of a Beautiful Pine Grosbeak sitting on a snow covered branch. This Backyard Bird is so Hardy as it ignores the bitter cold habitat it lives in and usually doesn't migrate like Ducks or Geese.
